Canon AE-1 with 50mm Cutaway Lens Set (1976)

Launched in 1976, the Canon AE-1 was the first SLR camera with a built-in microprocessor, and it sold more than five million units. Easy to use, affordable and beautifully built, it is the camera countless photographers learned on, and it is still loved by film shooters today. The set adds a real Canon FD 50mm lens cut open down the middle, so you can see every glass element, the aperture blades and the focusing helicoid inside.

What you are looking at is something almost nobody gets to see: the inside of a Canon AE-1, the gears, springs and shutter that turned light into memories. Our studio members spend many hours on each piece, from disassembly and cleaning to designing the layout and producing the final piece, all by hand in Los Angeles. We love these machines, and every build is our way of giving a beautiful piece of photographic history a second life.

A NOTE ON CHARACTER

Every piece is built from a real vintage camera, so light scratches or signs of age may show. We think they are part of its story, and they make each piece one of a kind.
