Canon AL-1 (1982)

The Canon AL-1 of 1982 was one of the first SLRs with electronic focus assist, little lights in the viewfinder that told you when your picture was sharp. Every frame like this takes our team at least 12 hours, laying out each of the camera’s many parts one by one.

We know how much a Canon AL-1 can mean, because cameras like this one recorded our own childhoods too. Every piece starts with a real camera that our studio team disassembles by hand, cleans part by part, designs and assembles in our Los Angeles workshop. It is slow, careful work, and it finally lets you see the precision mechanics that hid inside the body for decades. This is how we bring it a second life.

A NOTE ON CHARACTER

Every piece is built from a real vintage camera, so light scratches or signs of age may show. We think they are part of its story, and they make each piece one of a kind.
