Apple iPhone 1st Generation Art Edition (2007)

On January 9, 2007, Steve Jobs walked on stage at Macworld and introduced “an iPod, a phone and an internet communicator” in one device. The original iPhone, with its 3.5-inch multi-touch screen, brushed aluminum back and a single home button, changed how the whole world communicates, and every smartphone since traces its roots back to it. The Art Edition takes it a step further: the background is printed on fine art paper and finished with silver hot-stamping, which catches the light and shimmers as you move around it, turning the teardown into a true piece of art.

Behind the glass is something you rarely get to see: the inside of an original iPhone that once carried someone’s calls, texts and photos. Our studio members spend hours on each piece, from disassembly and cleaning to designing the layout and producing the final piece, all by hand in Los Angeles. We grew up with these phones, and every build is our way of giving a beloved piece of tech history a second life.
