Apple iPad 1st Generation (2010)

When Steve Jobs introduced the iPad in 2010, many people called it “just a giant iPhone.” Then it created a whole new category between phone and computer. With its 9.7-inch screen, Apple’s A4 chip and a 10-hour battery, the first iPad changed how we read, watch and work, and its design still lives on today.

Behind the glass is something you rarely get to see: the inside of an iPad that once played someone’s favorite songs on repeat. Our studio members spend hours on each piece, from disassembly and cleaning to designing the layout and producing the final frame, all by hand in Los Angeles. We grew up with these players in our ears, and every build is our way of giving a beloved piece of music history a second life.

A NOTE ON CHARACTER

Each piece is built from a real pre-owned device, so light scratches or small signs of age may show. We think they are part of its story.
