Asahi Pentax S2 (1959)

From Asahi Optical, the company behind the Pentax name, the Pentax S2 of 1959 belongs to the era when Japanese SLRs took over the world, with an instant-return mirror and a solid all-metal body. Every frame like this takes our team at least 12 hours, laying out each of the camera’s many parts one by one.

We know how much a Pentax can mean, because cameras like this one recorded our own childhoods too. Every piece starts with a real camera that our studio team disassembles by hand, cleans part by part, designs and assembles in our Los Angeles workshop. It is slow, careful work, and it finally lets you see the precision mechanics that hid inside the body for decades. This is how we bring it a second life.

A NOTE ON CHARACTER

Every piece is built from a real vintage camera, so light scratches or signs of age may show. We think they are part of its story, and they make each piece one of a kind.
