Toshiba Hard Drive

For decades, every photo, game and document you saved lived on a spinning hard drive. Inside, a mirror-polished platter spins thousands of times per minute while a read/write head floats just nanometers above it, moved by powerful magnets with incredible speed and precision. It is one of the most beautiful machines inside a computer, and almost nobody sees it.

Behind the glass is something you rarely get to see: the inside of a hard drive that once worked hard inside someone’s computer. Our studio members spend hours on each piece, from disassembly and cleaning to designing the layout and producing the final frame, all by hand in Los Angeles. We grew up building and upgrading PCs, and every piece is our way of giving a beloved part of tech history a second life.
