Apple iPhone 1st Generation Resin Encased (2007)

On January 9, 2007, Steve Jobs walked on stage at Macworld and introduced “an iPod, a phone and an internet communicator” in one device. The original iPhone, with its 3.5-inch multi-touch screen, brushed aluminum back and a single home button, changed how the whole world communicates, and every smartphone since traces its roots back to it. Here the parts are sealed in crystal-clear resin and set on a rechargeable LED light base, so the whole piece glows from below and the components seem to float in light. Charge it up and it works anywhere, no cable on your desk.

We know how much an original iPhone can mean, because we lived with them too. Every piece starts with a real device that our studio team disassembles by hand, cleans part by part, lays out and mounts in our Los Angeles workshop. It is slow, careful work, and it finally lets you see the engineering hidden inside the phone you once held every day. This is how we bring it a second life.
