Leica R4 (1980)

The Leica R4 of 1980 brought multiple automatic exposure modes to Leica’s legendary R series of SLRs. Compact and precise, it carries the name every photographer dreams about, and it is a rare piece to see from the inside.

What you are looking at is something almost nobody gets to see: the inside of a Leica R4, the gears, springs and shutter that turned light into memories. Our studio members spend many hours on each piece, from disassembly and cleaning to designing the layout and producing the final piece, all by hand in Los Angeles. We love these machines, and every build is our way of giving a beautiful piece of photographic history a second life.

A NOTE ON CHARACTER

Every piece is built from a real vintage camera, so light scratches or signs of age may show. We think they are part of its story, and they make each piece one of a kind.
