SEGA Game Gear (1990)

Released in 1990, the Game Gear was SEGA’s bold answer to the Game Boy: a full-color, backlit screen at a time when its rival was still green and gray. It ate six AA batteries in a few hours and nobody cared, because it put Sonic, Columns and Shinobi in your pocket in full color. Today it is one of the most iconic handhelds of the 90s.

We know how much a Game Gear can mean, because we grew up with them too. Every piece starts with a real device that our studio team disassembles by hand, cleans part by part, lays out and mounts in our Los Angeles workshop. It is slow, careful work, and it finally lets you see the engineering hidden inside the device you once spent countless hours with. This is how we bring it a second life.

A NOTE ON CHARACTER

Each piece is built from a real pre-owned device, so light scratches or small signs of age may show. We think they are part of its story.
